Twenty-four students from St Martin’s College sixth form took part in a Euroscola event in Strasbourg. Such events enable students to learn about the EU and European integration.
While sitting in the seats of members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the students learnt about the working of European institutions, debated and voted on various resolutions and interacted with fellow European students.
During the event, college students Ellie Muscat Barron and Hannah Schembri presented St Martin’s College Sixth Form and Malta to an audience of around 500 participants. College student Duncan Friggieri, along with a team of four students from different countries, placed first in a Euroscola game. Another college student, Jacques Azzopardi, and his team placed third from over 130 teams.
Apart from the Euroscola programme the Maltese students also visited the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights, where they were hosted by Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano, and attended a presentation about the court’s work.
College student Nicole Sladden presented De Gaetano with a painting of a Maltese fishing village and luzzu that she painted especially for the occasion.
The programme was complemented by visits to places of interest in Strasbourg.
