A drama about a spate of teenage suicides in south Wales has won two awards at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Danish director Jeppe Ronde’s Bridgend won a best actress accolade for Hannah Murray, who played Sara in the drama which focused on a cluster of deaths in the late 2000s. It also won an award for best editing and cinematography in the New York festival’s narrative section.

Virgin Mountain, an offbeat Icelandic romantic comedy about a 43-year-old virgin, won the best narrative feature award. It also scooped best screenplay and best actor for Gunnar Jonsson. The festival jury said the film’s mixture of humour and pathos “captured our hearts”.

Best documentary went to Democrats, Camilla Nielsson’s examination of the Zimbabwe government under President Robert Mugabe, a documentary made with uncommon access over three years.
