Envic Galea (picture), the long-time official at the Maltese Olympic Committee, yesterday lost his seat in the Executive Committee as he was ousted in the vote by the returning Kirill Micallef Stafrace.

Seventeen candidates stood for election during yesterday’s General Assembly which saw delegates from all affiliated federations within the MOC fold cast their vote to form the new committee for the next two years.

William Beck collected the highest number of votes ahead of Paul Sultana. Dion Buhagiar, Lucienne Attard, Sue Mercieca, Jonathan Vella and Charles Camenzuli all retained their place. They will be joined by Micallef Stafrace who polled enough votes to fill the eighth and last seat available ahead of Galea, the Malta Judo Federation president.

The vote was originally scheduled for April 7.

However, the MOC postponed the elections after complaints launched by a group of candidates who argued that the deadline set by the secretary general had breached the governing body’s statute and was not according to the rules. Incidentally, none of those who filed the protest has succeeded in getting elected, yesterday.

Meanwhile, among those attending the general assembly yesterday was former MOC president Lino Farrugia Sacco. He was representing the Malta Tennis Federation.
