Recently I decided to take my wife and two daughters to see the new Disney film Cinderella.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Eden Cinemas in Bay Street, St Julian’s, had a special offer whereby a family of two adults and two children paid the same price as four children, €16 instead of €22.

I am sure readers can understand my dismay then, when I discovered that my 12-year-old daughter was regarded as an adult, rather than a child, by Eden Cinemas.

If the company is going to offer such concessions for families, maybe they should look into the proper definition of an adult which, according to the dictionary is: a person who by virtue of attaining a certain age, generally eighteen, is regarded in the eyes of the law as being able to manage his or her own affairs.

I would welcome to hear what the management of Eden Cinemas have to say about describing a 12-year-old as an adult, as I am sure that I am not the only parent to be dismayed by their definition of adulthood.
