The Planning Authority this afternoon approved two applications for the sanctioning of works at boathouses in Dwejra, limits of San Lawrenz.

Another two similar applications were refused. The two approved, had received prior approval in 2008.

One was for the reconstruction of a boathouse which collapsed during the replacement of a dangerous roof, the other for the sanctioning of the boathouse.

Mepa approved the latter against a €5,200 fine, imposing the maximum penalty according to current legislation.

The authority also refused two applications for the sanctioning of summer residences, also in Dwejra.

Victor Axiak and Alex Vella were the only two members to consistently vote against the applications.

Dwejra is a Natura 2000 site and of ecological, geomorphological, fauna and marine importance.
