The government has initiated talks with a private company following the possibility that it would be laying-off of about 70 workers.

Times of Malta said yesterday Panta Lesco Group will be issuing layoff notices to some 70 workers in the coming days because of reduced orders.

In a statement this evening, it said the Employment and Training Corporation and the Department Of Industrial and Employment Relations would continue discussions with the company and union representatives over the coming days to help in any way possible.

The government said it was committed to help local businesses, as well as their employees and their families, in such challenging circumstances.

Should these employees be laid off, the government said, they would find its full support to find alternative employment in the shortest time possible.
