Pembroke Athleta’s Hannah Pace (picture) showed consistent form by winning the International TrapaniMan Sprint Distance Triathlon in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily, on Sunday.

This was a memorable race for the triathlon association as Danica Bonello Spiteri came home second followed by Margaret Seguna for an all-Malta podium.

Racing in less than perfect conditions, the race started off with a choppy 750m swim followed by an undulating cycle of 20kms and a relatively flat 5km run.

Competing against 13 other triathletes in the women’s race, Pace crossed the finish line in an overall time of 1:06.21, beating Bonello Spiteri by 99 seconds.

Seguna was six seconds slower in third place.

“I am thrilled to have won this race, but also proud to be part of an all-Malta podium,” Pace said.

“Danica and Margaret raced really hard as can be seen from the results. I am confident that these kind of races will help with my preparation for the forthcoming European Games in Baku.

“Locally we have little opportunity for draft legal races, thus such events give us the opportunity to hone our skills further.”

Pace’s participation in Sicily was made possible through the assistance of Garmin.
