The Maltese Olympic Committee has published correspondence from the International Olympic Committee endorsing its behaviour to ensure that Thursday’s executive committee election is held according to statute.

The run-up to Thursday’s Exco poll was blighted by a series of protests from a group of candidates who challenged the legality of the election as they deemed that the MOC had breached its statute on two accounts.

In its response, the International Olympic Committee conceded that MOC had committed a mistake in the notice for the elective general assembly, initially pencilled for April 7, as it did not respect the 28-day deadline as requested by the MOC statute.

However, it said that the MOC’s decision to postpone the date of the meeting to April 23 to meet the 28 days requirement without modifying the deadline of nominations did not breach its statute and did not affect any candidate negatively or unfairly.
