Qormi made up for their upset in the KO final a few days before with an emphatic 5-0 victory over White Hart on Sunday to make sure of the league title.
Steve Tanti shot his team ahead on ten minutes and Qormi continued to exert pressure even though Robert Vassallo Agius, the White Hart custodian, was instrumental in stopping them going further ahead.
However, he was helpless to stop Tanti scoring his second goal after he picked up a pass from Thomas Degiovanni before the half-time break.
On 42 minutes, Kyle Micallef connected with a goalbound shot to put Qormi 3-0 ahead and Juan Sarcia netted their fourth from a penalty corner action.
Ayrton Falzon added a fifth as White Hart tried hard to score at least a consolation goal. However, they were unable to reduce the arrears despite winning six penalty corners in the last ten minutes of the match.
Last Thursday evening, in a typical cup final, Qormi exerted early pressure on Sliema Hotsticks but the second half produced all the fireworks.
After Qormi missed taking advantage of two penalty corners, Steve Portelli took the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring two goals for Hotsticks, the second a hard drive from the top of the D.
Qormi reacted strongly and Sarcia scored to halve the deficit but Portelli grabbed his hat-trick soon after, finding the opponents’ net with a delightful reverse stick hit.
John Williams pulled one back for Qormi a minute from time but Hotsticks held on for a narrow 3-2 win to lift the KO trophy.
