Ghadira Bay has been granted blue flag status once more by an international jury. It is one of nine beaches in Malta and Gozo which enjoy the status.

The quality status was given to Malta’s biggest beach on condition that Mepa continues to monitor the construction of kiosks to ensure compliance with permit conditions and method statements.

The operation of the kiosks is also to be monitored to ensure compliance with blue flag criteria.

The jury recommended more frequent beach inspections.

Nature Trust is the Blue Flag national operator in Malta.

The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)[1] that a beach meets high standards for water quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services and general environmental management.

There had been concern that Ghadira would be thrown out of the running after kiosks started being built on concrete platforms.
