A 32-year-old Mali man was today sentenced toa 13-month jail term suspended for two years for making use of a false Italian driving licence to drive in Malta.

Yusuf Traore, a failed asylum seeker who lives in Mosta, admitted to making use of a false document, making a false declaration when he used it to drive, driving without a valid licence and being in possession of 0.38 grammes of cannabis resin on Sunday at about 5.30pm.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras handed down the suspended jail term and a €200 fine for driving without a licence and imposed a €50 penalty for the simple possession of cannabis under the new drug law.

Police Inspector Melvyn Camilleri prosecuted while lawyer Noel Bartolo represented the accused.
