A number of pipes saved a young French tourist's life when they broke her fall down a shaft late yesterday.
The police said the 15-year-old girl fell down a shaft in a hotel in Qawra.
She fell from the sixth floor but a network of pipes on the fifth floor stopped her from falling further and she was rescued from there in a delicate operation by rescuers of the Civil Protection Department.
She was taken to hospital, shaken, but only slightly injured.
The police said the incident happened at about 9.10p.m.
The circumstances of how she found herself in the shaft are under investigation but the case is being regarded as an accident.
