The annual rate of inflation in March stood at 0.59 per cent, down from 1.11 per cent a year ago, NSO figures issued dowday show.

The main upward impacts were recorded in the Food Index (0.75 percentage points), the Clothing and Footwear Index (0.33 percentage points) and the Recreation and Culture Index (0.19 percentage points). This was mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, garments and tuition fees respectively.

The biggest downward impacts were brought about by the Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels Index (-0.66 percentage points) and the Transport and Communication Index (-0.26 percentage points). This was mainly due to lower electricity rates and a price reduction in fuels, the NSO said..

The twelve-month moving average rate was 0.24 per cent.
