A bouncer who stopped a man from exiting the Aria Club in San Gwann with an ice bucket ended up in hospital with a two-centimetre laceration on his forehead, a court heard today.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard the police charge 40-year-old Senglea mechanical fitter Kevin Turner with seriously injuring bouncer Denis Cuschieri when he assaulted him and struck him in the face with the bucket.

The incident took place at around 1.30am yesterday morning when Mr Cuschieri stopped Mr Turner who was trying to leave the establishment with an ice bucket in his hands. Mr Turner pleaded not guilty to assaulting the bouncer, seriously injuring him, breaching the peace, being drunk in public and relapsing.

Magistrate Scerri Herrera granted him bail against a €500 deposit and a €2,000 personal guarantee.

Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted while lawyer Joseph Mizzi was defence counsel.
