Around 100 members of various girl guide groups took part in a three-day camp organised by the Malta Girl Guides to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics and related careers among their members.

During the event, entitled #iCanDoScience, the participants lived in tents in the green area surrounding Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi.

The girls familiarised themselves with scientific subjects in a practical and holistic way through fun, hands-on experience. In a Meet the Scientist speed mentoring session female scientists working in the industry were invited to offer career guidance to the camp participants.

Other activities included painting, archery, astronomy, tinkering and rocket-making.

The camp was supported by the Malta Council for Science and Technology, the student organisation S-cubed, and the European Commission’s campaign ‘Science: It’s a girl thing’, which targets girls aged 13 to 18 and aims to challenge stereotypes around science.
