I am sad and very disappointed at Malta missing such a golden opportunity to stop spring hunting once and for all.

I’m also angry at our two main political leaders, especially the Prime Minister who helped the Yes vote in no small way.

He insults my intelligence when he states that he didn’t make a difference when he knows very well a certain number of his supporters would do anything he says. A young and supposedly progressive prime minister has shamed Malta by publicly stating that he voted Yes, meaning he supports the slaughter of birds.

The day after the result many columnists, environmentalists and others wrote articles condemning the two leaders.

Unfortunately, there’s only one party in Malta which for many years has stuck to its principles, never budging in the fight for the environment even in times when no one really gave the environment much thought.

I am sick of hearing high-profile people talking about the environment and criticising the government and the Opposition but not having the guts to come out in the open and urge people to vote Alternattiva Demokratika.

AD has not been able to attract people of high profile to join them and run for Parliament. Is it because most of those who run for politics do it out of self-interest rather than principles?

I for one will never again vote PL or PN. I think it’s time for people who voted No to do some thinking at the next election and take a step to change the face of Maltese politics once and for all.
