Vittoriosa Stars 0
Mqabba 4

A below par Vittoriosa Stars saw their slim chances of a place in the play-off dashed after going down to Mqabba 4-0, last night.

Surely, this was the worst defensive display by the Stars this season as Arturo Di Napoli’s side just failed to get going.

Mqabba started on the offensive and after only four minutes Guedes de Freitas hit wide after doing well to unmark himself in the Stars’ box.

Guy Tape headed badly from close range but Mqabba soon forged ahead when Malcolm Buttigieg failed to clear and Karl Cutajar pounced on the occasion to hit past keeper Magri.

Leslie Burke’s side made it 2-0 on 15 minutes when after some sloppy defending Tape found space to ram the ball home.

Mqabba could have made it 3-0 but Cutajar drove the ball just over the bar from just inside the area but just before half-time Brandon Grech darted through and placed the ball beyond the keeper’s reach for Mqabba’s third goal.

The second half was a boring affair with Mqabba happy with their three-goal lead while Vittoriosa failing to at least put some sort of pressure on their opponents.

The Stars had an opportunity to reduce the arrears 18 minutes from time but Michael Camilleri hit wide after an inviting ball by Guedes Eder.

Mqabba rounded up the score on 90 minutes when Alessio Cassar scored with a crisp shot from the edge of the area following a one-two with Brandon Grech.
