Environment Minister Leo Brincat today started a series of consultation meetings in preparation for the removal of the eco-contribution in line with the announcement made in the 2015 Budget.

Mr Brincat, who held separate meetings with the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry as well as the Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, said the aim would be to remove eco-contribution from imported electronic and electric products by the end of the year.

However, by mid June importers need to take up one of the various waste management schemes or submit a plan on how they would align themselves with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive of the EU.
