A Finn was today handed a suspended jail term and fined €950 after he pleaded guilty to slightly injuring two police officers during a disturbance while under the influence of alcohol.

Riku Markus Makinen, a 23-year-old online gaming employee who lives in Ta Xbiex, pleaded guilty to injuring the officers, damaging a police uniform, being drunk and disorderly in public and breaching the peace.

Sources said the incident began at Ghadira Bay yesterday when the Finn got drunk and started bothering people around him. The police arrested him and took him to the Qawra police station. While he was there, he stumbled and injured himself and was taken to Mater Dei Hospital.

In hospital, the Finn continued to make a scene, at one point even accusing doctors and nurses of trying to steal his kidneys.

Before Magistrate Josette Demicoli, the Finn pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. He was jailed for three months suspended for a year, fined €950 and ordered to pay the Police Force €5 for the policeman's shirt he tore during a scuffle.

Police Inspector Maurice Curmi prosecuted while lawyer Benjamin Valenzia appeared for the accused.
