Sea transport between Malta and Gozo was down in the first quarter this year compared to the same period last year.

The National Statistics Office said 842,193 commuters travelled between Malta and Gozo in the first quarter, six per cent less than in the same period last year.

The highest number of commuters was in March at 336,351, or 39.9 per cent of the total for the quarter. There was a drop of 1.9 per cent in vehicles, totalling 258,648.

The number of trips stood at 4,591, a decrease of 0.9 per cent over the first quarter of 2014.

The majority of trips took place in March at 1,600, or 34.9 per cent of total trips for
the quarter.
