A €2 million fund for research at post doctorate level was launched this morning.
The fund, the first of its kind in Malta, aims to offer more specialisation at post doctorate level for the country to retain the best minds, preventing brain drain.
The initiative would be supporting initiatives promoting an innovative and versatile economy, as well as research projects that could be partially funded by EU funds.
Seven research sectors are being offered under the scheme, namely, science and engineering; ICT; education; medicine and pharmaceuticals; social sciences, anthropology, culture and behavioural sciences; energy and environment; and any other sector contributing towards the economy, the social sector, the environment, cultural development and the 2020 EU strategy.
Research has to be carried out full time at a recognised educational institution.
A research programme can get up to a maximum of €200,000. The research has to be concluded within three years, with a possibility of a one-year extension.
Applications are being received online from today on myscholarship.gov.mt until June 19.
