I have found it quite mind-boggling how, just hours after the referendum result was announced, all that talk we had heard coming from Shout and its array of supporters in the English language newspapers, that “this time the Maltese people will decide and not the politicians”, was instantly forgotten and fingers started being pointed at the politicians, particularly at Joseph Muscat and Simon Busuttil.

Shout leaders, particularly Saviour Balzan, has pointed a finger at Muscat for the Yes camp winning the referendum.

He seems to have forgotten the many advertisements Shout placed quoting Muscat saying that everyone, including his parliamentary group, was free to vote as they wished.

Instead, Balzan and his colleagues should blame themselves for trying to change the referendum from one about legal hunting in spring to one about illegal acts of hunting, which 98 per cent of the Maltese people certainly are against, including 98 per cent of hunters.
