Middlesea Insurance and Fundacion Mapfre are once again promoting road safety to school children through a “Street Smart Campaign” which was launched last year to pupils aged 11 to 13 years.
The road safety education campaign will this year reach more than 4,000 student, this time in Form 3 and 4.
The campaign uses comical sketches, by animation group Generation Green. The students learn the importance of crucial road signs and of wearing proper safety clothing, among other things.
Students are also given a book related to roadside education.
Middlesea and Mapfre have collaborated on these nation-wide campaigns since 2013.
“Statistics show that in 2014, 1,796 people were injured in traffic accidents, with 10 fatalities.
“Educating young people on the rules of road safety has to be something continuous as this is the only way to avoid fatalities,” said Alfredo Munoz, president and CEO of Middlesea Insurance.
