Rescuers freed an 18-year-old man from the rubble of a small room in Mġarr after the ceiling collapsed yesterday afternoon.

The police said the young man was hurt and that two other youths, aged 17, had also been taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries was still unknown last night but they were not in a critical condition.

The three were on top of the room when the roof caved in, the police said.

The 17-year-olds got out of the debris on their own but rescuers from the Civil Protection Department had to lift a concrete slab to pull the other man out as paramedics stood by to rush him to hospital. The incident happened at about 2.15pm in a field in Triq Armaġġ.
