Updated with more details - A knife-wielding man was resisted twice as he carried out three hold-ups/muggings late yesterday.

The first case took place in Graham Street, Sliema at about 8pm. A Serb couple reported that they had just entered their apartment block when somebody knocked on the main door of the common area.

When a Serbian man, 50, opened the door, he came face to face with a hooded man, holding a knife, who demanded cash. A struggle ensued and the Serbian man was hit twice with the knife and seriously injured, but his assailant fled empty handed.

Shortly after a man who fitted the description of the assailant was involved in another case in St John Bosco Street, Sliema. He approached a 73-year-old woman demanding cash. She resisted but he eventually ran off with a small amount of money. She was slightly injured.

About an hour later, the same man stopped a 55-year-old Maltese woman in Swieqi Road, Swieqi and again ran off with some cash.

The police are investigating.
