A total of 39 occupational fatalities have been reported by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority between 2007 and 2014, the National Statistics Office said.

It said in a statement that all fatalities at work in the past eight years involved men, mostly between the age of 35 and 54. In two thirds of the cases, the employees were full timers.

Enterprises engaging one to nine employees, together with the self-employed-without-employees category, were the most affected by occupational fatalities.

Larger companies (250+) registered the lowest number of fatal accidents.

Nearly half of deaths were caused by head injuries. Other causes included injuries
to the torso and organs. Half of work-related deaths during the period involved
construction workers.

Other victims had elementary occupations or were engaged in crafts and related trades
