I am a keen follower of Formula 1 racing who tries not to miss the live transmission of each race. However, I find that the excitement of former races has died away or, more like it, has been killed.

Take last weekend’s China Grand Prix, which had me yawning and dozing. It’s hard to stay interested when the race is uncontested after the first corner of the first lap.

What is exciting about having the cars that are placed first, second and third at the starting grid end up being the winner, runner-up and third placed respectively? It’s like a drab football match that ends 0-0 with hardly any attempts at goal.

Then, to try to sensationalise the news we find headlines like ‘Hamilton leads from start to finish’. But this is, in fact, an attempt to camouflage a boring, uneventful race. Where is the competitiveness?

Another emotion killer is the use of the safety car in the last laps. Don’t the organisers ever watch (and learn from) the Nascar races?

No wonder the followers of Formula 1 GPs are dwindling.
