The British Foreign Office has issued a travel advice warning British tourists coming to Malta to be vigilant in rural areas during the spring hunting season.

The travel advice was issued earlier today on the FCO facebook page.

British High Commissioner Rob Luke said later the text was the same as for previous spring and autumn bird hunting seasons

A Facebook and twitter storm followed the referendum decision to retain spring hunting, with many calling on tourists to boycott Malta.

A Boycott Malta facebook page was also set up.

Birdlife reacted yesterday by saying on twitter: "Support the cause, don't boycott the very people fighting for a better future for birds, nature and environment. Our work will continue."
