More than once was I on the verge of writing a letter regarding those horrendous white-taxi drivers but what I saw the other day presented the ultimate reason.

Some of them put their customers’ lives at risk since not only do they drive too fast (on Maltese roads this is more than a crime), but they take one-way streets the wrong way – most probably to gain a couple of seconds, ignoring the danger to oncoming cars.

They have no idea what a stop sign actually means and zoom through without caring in the least about other road users.

Some of them are so vulgar that they do not even give time for anyone in front of them to park, hooting, shouting insults at the poor driver and unnerving him or her with the abuse hurled out of the window.

I have driven in many countries since 1970 but Malta beats them all for the number of uncivil drivers and the amount of selfish behaviour and vulgar language.
