The Seville-based company Puerto Flamenco, headed by a Maltese flamenco dancer, has just completed a three month tour of Australia and New Zealand to sell-out crowds.

The group, led by Francesca ‘La Chica’ Grima and Andrej Vujicic, gave performances and workshops in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Auckland, finally crowning their tour with what Womad NZ reviewer Liz Gunn described as “another winning Womad performance from Puerto Flamenco”.

Womad NZ is a three-day international music festival held in New Zealand.

The sell-out crowd of more than 22,000 festival-goers were given a “visual and musical treat”, in two electrifying performances by the group, in which “power meets strength” and “the precision of movement and contained power was impressive.”

Repeating their participation from Womad 2009, Puerto Flamenco “received standing ovations then, and they earned them again in this show”.

Womad NZ featured over 300 artists from 22 countries, with headliners such as Sinead O’Connor, Youssou N’Dour, Buena Vista Social Club, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Rufus Wainwright and Richard Thompson.

Already one of the longest established cultural events in the world, Womad has been hosting festivals in more than 30 countries since 1982, with the Womad experience enjoyed by a collective audience of millions.

Puerto Flamenco will continue their 2015 performance and touring schedule in Spain and Europe.
