‘Reni, Guercino, Algardi and the artistic patronage of the Boncompagni Corcos’ is the title of the next international lecture of the Caravaggio studies programme of the University’s History of Art Department. It will be delivered by Guendalina Serafinelli on Wednesday at 5pm at Gateway Hall D1, Msida campus. Serafinelli is a research associate in Italian baroque art at the national gallery of Washington’s Centre for Advanced Studies in Visual Arts.

Modern and contemporary art

‘Dun Karm and Caruana Dingli: the looming of Maria tal-Bajd’ is the title of the first of four lectures on modern and contemporary art being held by the University’s History of Art Department in collaboration with the Akkademja tal-Malti. It will be delivered in Maltese by Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, a senior lecturer at the department, on Friday at 6pm at Dar l-Ewropa, St Paul’s Street, Valletta.

The neurology of dyslexia

‘Wobbles, warbles and fish – The neurology of dyslexia’ is the title of a one-day seminar led by John Stein of Oxford University on April 22 at the Dolmen Resort Hotel, Qawra.

Stein trained as a clinical neurologist at St Thomas’s Hospital, London, Leicester and Oxford. He was appointed fellow and tutor in medicine at Magdalen College in 1970. Now an emeritus professor, his research focuses on how vision controls movement in animals, patients with movement disorders, dyslexic children and antisocial offenders.

The event is organised by the University’s Department of Counselling in collaboration with its Neuroscience Network with support from the Ministry for Education’s Department for Quality and Standards in Education, the Malta Dyslexia Association (MDA) and the Malta Chamber of Scientists.
