Opening Doors , an autonomous NGO operating towards the promotion of and active involvement of adults with learn-ing disabilities in the artistic and creative sector, is now embarking on a new direction.

The NGO recently formed a new, extended board and appointed a new artistic director and president to replace Louise Ghirlando and Toni Attard respectively.

Throughout the past seven years, both Ghirlando and Attard have taken the company towards achieving great strides in the creative expression on the disability front. Participants in the programme have attended various workshops, helped devise productions and travelled extensively to various countries sharing ideas and experiences.

Opening Doors, in collaboration with St James Cavalier, will also lead an international disability arts festival, ART-IS, in June.

Sandra Mifsud, an experienced performer and dance teacher who has worked collaboratively on numerous dance and theatre projects has been appointed new artistic director, while Jo Butterworth, a professor of dance studies at the University of Malta and director of the School of Performing Arts, takes on the role of president.

Opening Doors holds dance and drama sessions led by Anna Formosa and Sandra Mifsud respectively. These sessions give the participants an opportunity to develop performing skills and provide a platform for expression and imagination in a fun atmosphere.

To help out in the sessions or become a member, send an e-mail to openingdoorsmalta@gmail.com or follow the NGO’s Facebook page.
