I truly believe that Britain deserves a new prime minister.

David Cameron, has languished in his office and stagnates as badly as the way wages, according to the article ‘British Parliament dissolved, election campaign is now on’ (March 31), have “stagnated” for many Britons.

I am a firm believer in term limits for national elected officials... one term only. Then, let them sit out three years before running for another office.

Whether it is Britain, the US or Malta, there are generally dozens of qualified would-be applicants who would like to be in public service but who just cannot because they need a ‘big name’, a ‘war-chest of funds’ and a ‘coalition’ (or ‘followers’).

Sadly, the public often follows blindly – taking an apathetic approach that it’s better to re-elect the devil we already know rather than vote for the unknown devil.

Personally, I want to vote for someone, not against someone.

Cameron has declared that voters “face a stark choice”.

If we had single-term limits, the man wouldn’t be running and it would inject new faces and fresh blood into the political arena.

In our modern age, surely we could do better, globally, by not re-electing the same old, worn out, re-treaded politicians. Once re-elected, many of those men and women have no incentive to work toward higher and loftier goals.

They simply breathe a sigh of relief after the election and then wait until the next election cycle comes around.

This political merry-go-round is partially to blame for the fact that our leaders are so woefully inadequate and so out-of-touch with the ordinary citizen.

I hope Britain does better this time. To progress, a nation must have a leader with true vision for his own record and instil that same enthusiasm among his people.

I believe in a brighter future with turnover among politicians. Throw out the incumbents who have stayed too long.
