The latest 2014 vintage Medina Sangiovese DOK Malta Superior is being released from the Delicata winery this week.

The previous vintage of this red wine was sold out some months ago due to its popularity. The wait has been quite long but the 2014 vintage Sangiovese was well worth waiting for: it is packed full of firm, vibrant, young fruit flavours mixed with spicy aromas reminiscent of black pepper and smooth chocolate.

The red grape variety Sangiovese was only introduced in Malta in the last few years but is performing very well. It produces wines with an individual character that is quite unique when compared with other international varieties grown here.

The resulting wines are juicy and medium- bodied with good structure. They have the usual good Sangiovese characteristics, but with added spice, not so readily found in the Tuscan versions of wine made from this grape variety.

It is also a wine that has some ageing potential. It keeps and evolves quite nicely up to at least four to five years from the vintage, developing into something really soft, subtle and a delight to drink.

It goes down especially well when accompanied by a good plate of cured meats and mild cheeses.
