Malta's absorption of EU funds for 2014 was 78 per cent, up from 30 per cent in March 2013, Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg said today.

He said the goal was to get it up to 100 per cent by the end of the year.

He said that in the past two years Malta used €372 million in EU structural funds.

Speaking outside Mater Dei Hospital, he said the Oncology Hospital had absorbed €44 million, the Life Sciences Complex took €20 million, the digital hub €4.4 million and the extension of the hospital emergency ward €8.9 million. All these projects will be completed by the end of the year.

The funds were from the EU's 2007-2013 budget.
