Ramah Ettir has succeeded Abdulrazagh Zmirli as the chief executive officer of Medavia. Mr Zmirli was at the helm of the company for more than 24 years.

Mr Ettir qualified as an aircraft engineer in 1981 and worked for Libyan Arab Airlines and another airline before he joined Afriqiyah Airways in 2001 and climbed through the ranks to CEO. During the 2011 revolution, it was alleged that Afriqiyah aircraft was being used to transport mercenaries from West Africa to Libya and Mr Ettir immediately resigned.

Mediterranean Aviation (Medavia) was set up in 1978 as a joint venture between the Maltese and Libyan governments. It now employs 260 people.
