Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening laid the foundation stone of the Metropolis Plaza in Gzira.
The €100 million mixed-use lifestyle development will feature three high-rise buildings of 13, 27 and 33 floors over a public piazza that connects Enrico Mizzi and Testaferrata streets.
The highest tower - the tallest in Malta - will include a helicopter pad.
The project will feature luxury apartments, offices, a supermarket, restaurants and a range of shops, health, fitness and leisure facilities and an underlying car park.
The project will employ 400 and is due for completion in four years' time.
The project, described by the developers as 'a catalyst for urban regeneration’ was conceived many years ago and Mepa approved the initial permit in 2009.
The current main investor is Jalal Husni Bey and his HB Group.
