I read with surprise Mark Mifsud Bonnici’s letter ‘Fishing and hunting’ (March 31). It is out of subject as he is obviously writing about full-time fishermen and not amateur fishermen.

We amateurs do not and are not allowed to fish illegally in our bays and harbours as this will negatively affect our own hobby.

I am not against hunting per se but I have serious reservations about spring hunting when birds are breeding and when many people are enjoying the countryside with hunters shooting nearby.

It is very unfair that hunters are using the hobbies of other people to instil fear instead of working harder to come up with stronger arguments to defend their practice.
