File footage was released yesterday of Prince Harry making his maiden flight in a Spitfire on a sortie from Goodwood via the Isle of Wight, to launch a scholarship for wounded veterans.

During the flight in February 2014, the Royal performed a loop-the-loop after he flew over the Isle of Wight and the English Channel before making a somewhat bumpy landing back on the runway.

"That was my first time landing a spitfire, I thought that was quite good," Prince Harry said over the radio.

The fourth in line to the British throne met two successful candidates of the Spitfire Scholarship, backed by The Royal Foundation's Endeavour Fund, on the day and has returned since.

The scholarship draws inspiration from pilot Douglas Bader who flew throughout World War Two with 20 individual aerial victories despite losing both his legs in 1931.

The candidates Nathan Forster, 27, from South Shields and Alan Robinson, 36, from Lincolnshire, will receive a training programme from Boultbee Flight Academy similar to that received by World War Two pilots.

It will culminate with both candidates flying in the South of England Flypast on the 15th of September this year to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
