A group of students and teachers from Stella Maris College senior school, Gżira, visited Carlo Gemmellaro school in Catania, Sicily, as part of the EUPA project Mare Nostrum – an Identity, Multiple Cultures. The project aims to develop a better understanding of the Mediterranean region, its agriculture and common heritage.

During their stay, the students got to know their counterparts from the host school and from schools in Portugal and Crete that are also involved in the project. They compared notes on the progress of the project so far, presented their work to the whole group and planned the project’s final phase in which the students will identify a common endangered species and seek ways of protecting it. A common healthy recipe book from all the partner countries will also be compiled.

The participants also visited an olive oil press to see the machinery and taste the pure olive oil and went on a tour of Mount Etna.
