Nobody was hurt this afternoon when a man threatened to jump from the balcony of a hotel in Tower Road, Sliema.

Witnesses said the man, who appeared to be a middle-aged foreigner, stepped onto the edge of the second floor balcony at around 1pm.

Police and Civil Protection Department officers in adjacent balconies attempted to coax the man down, but it was not until around 2pm that the pavement below was cordoned off and an inflatable rescue cushion put in place.

At one point, a woman could be seen walking with a pushchair right below the man’s balcony.

The man was eventually pulled back in from the balcony and escorted out to an ambulance.
