Qormi progressed to the final of the knockout competition after eliminating a depleted Rabat team in the semi-finals at the Corradino Complex.

Qormi enjoyed early territorial advantage and went ahead when Thomas Degiovanni scored on nine minutes, shooting home from the top of the D.

They went further ahead five minutes later with a Juan Sarcia goal before Degiovanni grabbed his second and Qormi’s third after pouncing on a rebound from a penalty corner.

Rabat fought back admirably and after a prolonged melee in the Qormi D, Mario Galea scored to reduce the arrears just before half-time.

Although Qormi kept up the pressure during the second period they could not break down Rabat’s rearguard despite being awarded a series of penalty corners

On the other hand, Rabat’s counter-attacks became more dangerous as the game wore on and on 66 minutes Charlot An-tonelli’s shot from close range was saved by Qormi’s custodian.

After White Hart’s Mark Zahra had a shot cleared off the line by the Sliema rearguard, the Hotsticks broke into rhythm and went ahead on 15 minutes when Steve Portelli netted as a result of a penalty corner action.

White Hart played the waiting game in defence and this frustrated Hotsticks’ efforts to the extent that after David Agius had a shot smothered by Sliema’s defence, they could not add to their tally by half-time.

The pattern did not change in the second half.

White Hart depended on sharp counter-attacks and the Hotsticks goalkeeper was instrumental in smothering two of their efforts.

Then, White Hart’s resistance fell when Silas Plaehn netted as a result of a penalty corner action.

White Hart threw caution to the wind in their bid to save the match but they were caught out two minutes from time when the unmarked Portelli made it 3-0 after picking his spot to endorse his side’s victory.
