Tony Drago and Brian Cini stormed into the European Team Championships semi-finals after brushing aside English pair Nick Jennings and Ryan Causton 4-1 yesterday.

However, 2014 winners Alex Borg and Duncan Bezzina bowed out of the tournament after they were beaten by Welsh pair Gareth Allen and Duane Jones, 4-2 in the last 16 at the Dolmen

Drago and Cini, who reached the last eight after defeating Welsh duo Alex Taubman and Sam Thomas 4-3, will surely be pleased with their efforts yesterday after outclassing the previously unbeaten Jennings and Causton.

Drago set Malta 3 on their way when winning the opening singles against Causton 71-54 before Cini outpointed Jennings 65-7.

The Malta pair then prevailed in the doubles 76-28 and move just one frame from victory.

Cini almost sealed it against Causton but missed the final pink and the latter took the frame 59-57.

Drago then put the seal when beating Jennings 67-12 to set up a last four clash against Allen and Jones.

Earlier, the Welsh duo had proved a hard nut to crack for Borg and Bezzina in the last 16. The match looked evenly balanced when the opening four frames were shared. But Wales 1 seized control when Allen beat Bezzina and take a 3-2 lead. The Welshmen then edged a tight doubles to wrap up victory.

In the masters, Malta will have no teams in the semis as Mario Brincat and Mark Saffrett (Malta 4) and Simon Zammit and Jason Peplow (Malta 1) lost in the last eight.
