A man who was caught trafficking ecstasy and cocaine in a  bar in Paceville on New Year’s Day 2008 has been jailed for eight months.

Neil Camilleri, 29, from Qormi, had been arrested during a New Year’s Eve party at Lines Bar in Paceville. He was caught with 12 ecstasy pills and a bag of cocaine.

The court heard how he originally had 20 pills but had sold some in Ħamrun earlier that day and had sold others at the bar before the police arrived.

Soon after the case began, he turned to Sedqa for help and managed to successfully complete a drug rehabilitation programme.

While confirming that he had remained clean of drugs, his probation officer recommended a minimum prison term.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras noted how Mr Camilleri had learnt from his mistakes and reformed his life. She therefore upheld the recommendations and jailed him for the minimum possible amount: six months over the trafficking of ecstasy and two months for trafficking cocaine. She also fined him €900.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.
