HSBC employees have been told by their union to hold a "sit-in type of strike action today".

The Malta Union of Bank Employees said this morning it was stepping up industrial action at the bank as it had not received counter-proposal following the bank's 'unilateral decision' to pull out of an agreement which MUBE insists it had reached in August last year over conditions of work.

The bank, MUBE said, must make a better effort to bargain fairly and be practical with all categories of staff.

The union said it understood the directive might have a direct unwarranted impact on customer service and regretted any inconvenience caused.
