Three foreign divers - two men and a woman - were rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta after they were dragged out to sea by strong currents close to the Blue Grotto this morning.

Two search and rescue launches were sent to the area together with an Italian Military Mission helicopter that was out on training.

AFM rescuers winched the divers up to the helicopter which transferred them to St Luke’s Hospital where an ambulance was waiting to take them to Mater Dei.

The divers were all in good health and did not require further medical assistance.

In view of the strong winds currently hitting the Maltese Islands, the AFM advised the public to be cautious.
