The Nationalist Party expressed concern today that the posts of marketing director in three of Malta tourism's most important markets are vacant.
In a statement, Opposition tourism spokesman Antoine Borg said the marketing director for the UK stepped down recently and Malta now had no marketing directors in the UK, France and Germany. The latter posts have been vacant for many weeks.
Mr Borg questioned how the posts to these important source markets had not been filled quickly, whereas the government quickly appointed a friend of the prime minister's wife to a €60,000 post in New York, even though the US accounting for only 2% of tourist arrivals.
