On the beautiful Sunday morning of March 29, my wife and I went on an organised tour of Villa Hookham Frere and its environs, in Guardamangia, during an open day event.
It was an almost two-hour long, very rich, extremely informative and breathtaking experience, which was ably and professionally conducted by well-known budding architect and architectural historian Edward Said.
In the most humble, but most justifiable manner, towards the end of the mobile lecture tour, Said appealed for donations and funds to preserve what still remains of the villa’s original grandeur and splendour.
This preservation project, requiring thousands of euros, merits all encouragement, initiative and funds from both public and private entities in an effort to assist the voluntary and purely culturally spirited Spartans, led by Said, in achieving their aim, so that the villa will eventually be a valuable addition to Malta’s cultural heritage and treasures.
