Holy Week is a very busy time for volunteer groups around Malta. Following is a list of exhibitions, displays and other events being organised in various parishes.

 

The Last Supper Table

Our Saviour parish church, Sir Ugo Mifsud Street, Lija

A replica of the Last Supper table according to Jewish rites with commentary in Maltese and English. The display will be launched today at 7.30pm in the form of a prayer vigil with singing of hymns, reading of excerpts from the Bible and sharing of spiritual thoughts. Wine and bread will be served at the end.

Last Supper Display

La Vittoria Philharmonic Society, Mellieħa

An exhibition comprising a replica of the Last Supper according to Jewish rites, a miniature model of the City of Jerusalem and other exhibits.

St Philip Band Club, Żebbuġ, Malta

A Holy Week exhibition featuring works by Alfred Camilleri Cauchi, among others, organised by St Philip Band Club of Żebbuġ.

Dingli main square

The altar boys group at Dingli parish church has organised a Holy Week exhibition featuring a re-presentation of the Last Supper and a display of Good Friday statues. There is also an exhibition of paintings by Paul Camilleri Cauchi at the St Mary Magdalene Wayside Chapel, Dingli cliffs.

Duke of Connaught’s Own Band Club, Valley Road, Birkirkara

TEAK, a sub-committee of the Duke of Connaught’s Own Band Club, is organising a Holy Week exhibition that includes a traditional Last Supper display, miniature statues of the disciples, as well as works of art in coloured semolina, rice and pasta. It also features various life-size and miniature statues.

Viewing times: Today: 5.30pm to 9.30pm; Maundy Thursday: 5.30pm to 11pm; Good Friday: all day; Saturday: 5pm to 10pm.

St Helen Band Club, Main Street, Birkirkara

The exhibition features artistic works made out of rice and semolina, as well as a display of the traditional Last Supper table. Inside the band club’s shelter one can view life-size statues recreating scenes from the Passion of Christ.

Viewing times: Today: 6pm to 9pm; Maundy Thursday: 6pm to 11pm; Good Friday: 8am to 2pm; Saturday: 8.30am to to 12.30pm and 6pm to 9pm.

The exhibition comprises a church model by Pierre Darmanin and includes 11 statues by the late artist Noel Cauchi.

Joseph Gerada’s exhibition showcases a church model made of wood and based on the Corinthian style. Several handmade articles are also on display, including a replica of a Giuseppe Calì painting, detailed gold embroidery, works in solid silver, iron-wrought candle holders, fine sculpture in wood and gold and silver gilding. Easter Concert

The Band Commission within Our Lady of the Lily Musical Society of Mqabba, in collaboration with Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, is holding the annual concert by Our Lady of the Lily Band, under the direction of Andrew Calleja.
