Suddenly, after the rainbow pedestrian crossing appeared, we discover that we have “traffic experts” in Malta!

Where have these ‘experts’ been hiding all these years, one asks oneself?

Where is the expertise in evidence on all the other pedestrian crossings, most of which are almost invisible due to the use of the wrong substance to paint them – along with most of the other road markings which are painted one week and all but disappear the next?

Why is it that this one instance should ‘confuse’ drivers, or divert their attention, while we have umpteen illuminated and moving billboards flashing next our highways, double parking on main arterial roads outside pastizzi shops, or on pedestrian crossings (probably because they were so faint they didn’t see them), and a myriad of deep trenches across most residential streets, caused by contractors for utility companies and badly filled.

Where are the ‘experts’ when proper supervision is required to maintain good standards ofroad maintenance?

I have to admit that some of the new major roads on the island are good, but the majority of suburban streets, especially in the south, remain a total disgrace. Put the ‘experts’ in a small car and drive them around some of the towns such as Żabbar, Żejtun, and so many others, and see them turn green as they are shaken to bits by the appalling road surfaces.

Let’s see how ‘expert’ they are, instead of sounding so superior.

If there is one single accident caused by this “rainbow” I shall eat my rainbow flag – I bet there will be many more caused by worn-out road markings.
